A short daily routine gives you a manageable place to practise answering aloud.

This 15-minute English speaking routine is for adults who can already make simple sentences. Use a phone timer and a notebook. Recording is optional: you can practise privately without sharing your voice with anyone.

Minutes 1–3: choose one everyday situation

Pick a conversation you may actually have this week: introducing yourself to a colleague, asking about an appointment, explaining a problem with an order or describing your weekend. Choose one, rather than trying to practise everything at once.

Write three short prompts. For an appointment, try: What do I need? When am I available? What question should I ask? Add a few useful words, but do not write a complete speech.

Minutes 4–6: listen, notice and borrow a phrase

Use a short English clip you understand, or read a simple model conversation aloud. Listen for a useful expression rather than trying to copy every sound. Pause and repeat the expression at a comfortable speed.

Here is an original practice dialogue:

“Hello. I’d like to change my appointment.”
“Of course. What day would suit you?”
“Would Thursday afternoon be possible?”
“We have a time at three.”
“That works for me. Thank you.”

Keep one reusable phrase, such as “Would Thursday afternoon be possible?” Change the day, time or request to fit your own situation. You do not need to imitate a particular accent to communicate clearly.

Minutes 7–10: answer aloud twice

Speak from your three prompts for about 30–60 seconds. Pause when you need to. If you forget a word, explain the idea another way: “the person who helps customers” can keep a conversation going when “customer service representative” does not come to mind.

Then answer again. This time, add one detail and one question. For example: “I need to change my appointment because I have a work meeting. Is there a time available on Friday morning?”

If you record yourself, listen once. Choose just one thing to improve: a missing verb, a sentence that was too long or a word you could not pronounce comfortably. Correct that part and repeat the sentence. You do not need to judge every mistake.

Minutes 11–13: practise a follow-up question

Conversations rarely stop after one answer. Ask yourself what the other person might say next, then respond. For the appointment example, try:

“What time are you available?”

“Could you spell your surname?”

“Would next week work instead?”

Practise a repair phrase too: “Could you say that again, please?” or “Do you mean this Friday or next Friday?” Asking for clarification is part of a useful conversation.

Minutes 14–15: save one sentence for tomorrow

Write your improved sentence and one phrase you want to reuse. Finish with a small goal: “Tomorrow I will explain a problem with a delivery.” Start the next session by saying today’s sentence from memory, then move on.

A five-day practice plan

Monday: introduce yourself and ask someone about their work.

Tuesday: describe a normal day, then ask about someone else’s routine.

Wednesday: make or change an appointment.

Thursday: explain a small problem and ask for help.

Friday: describe a plan for the weekend and suggest a time to meet.

Repeat the same topics the following week with new details. Keep a simple record: Could I finish my idea? Could I add a detail? Could I ask or answer a follow-up question? These questions are more useful than expecting every sentence to be perfect.

When to ask for help

If the same difficulty keeps stopping you, bring an example to a lesson: “I can describe my job, but I struggle when someone asks why I changed roles.” That gives a coach something specific to work on.
